About

This is the complete Accessibility Statement for c0rinne.net. For information on accessibility, consult W3C.org, and/or DiveIntoAccessibility.org. I have taken many steps to provide, what I believe to be, a fairly accessible site.

Access Keys

These are ways to navigate the site via your keyboard. In order to use, in Firefox 1.5 press ALT and the appropriate key. If you are using Firefox 2.0, you need to press ALT + Shift + the access key. However, this may not work for everyone. Therefore, you can change your configuration (see tutorial) to use the old method. If you are using IE, then you will need to press ALT + key + Enter. Mac users press CTRL and the key.

The keys:

  • Access Key H : Home
  • Access Key A : About
  • Access Key R : Book Reviews
  • Access Key C : Contact
  • Access Key D : Domain
  • Access Key T : My Thoughts
  • Access Key V : Visitors
  • Access Key B : To Bottom

Firefox 2.0 Access key tutorial

The Solution:

According to “stonedyak”, you just need to do “about:config” in Firefox (type in Address Bar) and change “ui.key.contentAccess” to “4″.

Trust me, it works. I’ve done it, and my access keys work perfectly now. The method for Firefox 2.0 (ALT + Shift + the access key) does not work for me, so this may be a solution for you. I got this information from Amanda.

Standards Compliance

  • Each page in this site validates XHTML 1.1. Each theme’s markup is Valid XHTML 1.1.
  • The site is valid CSS 3. Each theme’s style sheet is valid CSS 3.
  • Each CSS has also been optimized for efficiency.
  • c0rinne.net passed the automated verification of Section 508 and WAI AAA priority: WCAG 1,2 & 3 guidelines, and Bobby/WebXact AAA Approved Status, as far as possible. (Pages with forms are AA Approved Status.)
  • Heading tags are used appropriately, for example, <h1> tags are used for main title, <h2> tags are used for subtitles, <h3m> tags are sub-subtitles, and so on.
  • Text only version does not count, although it was written semantically.

Links, Navigation, and Text

  • Every page on this site has a link back to the home page; moreover, every page also has a link to the Sitemap for further navigational aids.
  • Each page has links to take you back to the top of the page.
  • Links are clearly distinguishable, either by making them bold, using alternate colors, underlining them, or etc.
  • Each link opens in the same page. If you would rather open a link in a new window, right click on the link and choose the appropriate option.
  • Each page has links to the major sections of the site.
  • External are marked with an image like this: external image, unless it is obvious to the visitor.
    • Admittedly, this is relative and subject to my opinions, but I will say that I assume my visitors to be knowledgeable enough to read what’s before and after the links, and to hover over them (to view titles) when necessary–I do this always before clicking on a link (pop-ups are the bastard children of website advertising–no offense to bastards or children). Erroneous on my part? Possibly.
  • I have used <abbr> and <acronym> tags in cases where I believe extra explanation is necessary. At all times, you can contact me if further explanation is needed.

Images, Themes

  • Every image has alternative text associated with it.
  • Each layout is CSS based.
  • Layouts can be viewed in text-only browsers.
  • A Text-Only version of the site is available. It has almost no styling.

Browsers

Each theme has been developed to be used in multiple browsers. I have tested the default theme through a Color and Vischeck, and I have confirmed that the site can be viewed by those who are colorblind. I have tested them in:

  • Browsershots.org, takes screenshots of your webpage in basically every browser imaginable.
  • Avant Browser, Default and Aqua theme: Tested by Stacy
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and 7 for Windows
  • Mozilla Firefox 1.5x and Firefox 2.0
  • Opera 9
  • Netscape 8
  • Safari 2.0.4 A simulation.
    • You can see a copy of the simulation. However, please note that this is a high resolution jpg image. Meaning, if you are on a slow connection, it may take forever to load.
    • The simulation is supposed to be what it looks like in Safari 2.0.4, but I offer no guarantees.
  • I do not have other browsers on my laptop. If you would like to test them for me and contact me, I would appreciate it.
